Games are played in 2x22 minute running-time periods with a central horn for start/stop. Each team will field 5 runners and 1 goalie at a time. Face-offs occur at the start of each period and after every goal. Play is continuous and fast-paced, with live substitutions made through the penalty box doors.
Box lacrosse is played in a confined indoor-style rink with boards, using a 30-second shot clock managed by the officials. All players are expected to play both ends of the floor (offense and defense), and goalies may not cross the mid-floor line.
Physicality is part of the game—legal body checking and stick checking will follow U.S. Box Lacrosse Association (USBOXLA) or equivalent safety guidelines. Proper box gear (rib pads, bicep pads, and box helmet) is strongly recommended for safety and performance.
